After a couple of years, Red Paddle Records is back and ready to share new music with you! These are some of our favorite new songs released this month by mostly independent artists. A few celebrity artists made the list due to the sheer quality of their production.
IN ROTATION:
Bebe Stockwell stumbled onto my social media feed with a pleasant acoustic indie pop vibe. After hearing her initial single, Speak Too Soon, I was all but excited for her EP to drop. Want Me guides the listener through the deep emotional states of uncertainty in a relationship. Bebe's unique lower register helps express the pain behind the lyrics in the verses. Check out Bebe's full EP for a great start to any morning!
I was so thrown off the first time I heard GOODTHANKYOU by Shelailia. The trap beat and alternative punk bassline immediately reminded me of Doechii's Catfish. Shelailai is following the hip-hop princess' style as she is able to swap between several different voices depending on the section of the song. Shelailai's chorus shows off her vocal range, while the verses focus on showing off her different attitudes and tonal changes. This track was such a pleasant surprise to find and we're excited to hear more.
JAWNY took off in the early 2020s with hits like Honeypie, but shortly after the artist seemed to disappear. In a recent social media post, JAWNY shares that he needed to step away from his artist career for a while to "gain a fresh perspective on where JAWNY should go [next]." After nearly 2 years, JAWNY dropped Control last week and it was well worth the wait. The new single brings a funky feel while standing true to the artist's lo-fi indie background. Just give the song a listen and judge it yourself.
Bon Iver has been teasing his new album, Sable, Fable since October of 2024. Less than a month before the album drops, we have been blessed with this incredible Double Single release. If Only I Could Wait begins with a simple drumbeat and raw
guitar leads similar to those of Mk.gee. This makes sense as Bon Iver has been working closely with Mk.gee and Dijon. As the track continues, we are introduced to Danielle Haim's soulful verse and perfected harmonies to bring around the chorus. To accompany this release, Bon Iver and Danielle Haim hosted a livestream video, solely focused on a trail in the woods. This is a perfect personification of these two singles as one can imagine hiking a trail while playing these tracks in their head.
Walk Home switches back to Bon Iver's playful production skills. The intro is reminiscent of 22, A Million, but Bon Iver's keeps the song moving with his full piano chords. Lyrically, Walk Home touches a feeling that we can all relate to; knowing love and going home to feel the love of that most important person. Bon Iver's full album drops April 11, 2025 and we cannot wait to hear the rest.
I met Lord Sko on a music video shoot a couple years ago. I knew in an instant that his potential would take him far. Launching his national tour, Sko dropped the Piff album featuring Bong Rips. The production follows old-school New York hip hop standards, utilizing horns in harmony to create a hook. Lord Sko introduces the track with his progressive flow and conscious lyrics describing a night with friends ripping the bong. Then, featured artist MAVI comes in to spit some bars in a style that reminds me of Chance The Rapper. This is the perfect track to kick back and relax.
After years stuck under a record deal, Jon Bellion is now releasing his true artistry. Following hit single Kid Again, Bellion began creating a cult following marketing by giving back to the fans. He updated his website to be a forum to have conversations with the fans and even dropped this new single WASH two days prior to the release date. There's something so freeing about this new era of Jon Bellion, showing the beauty in uncensored music.
How lucky we are. In one month, we get two Double Singles from two incredible ambient indie artists. Lowswimmer is the solo project of Ed Tullett, founding member of Novo Amor. His ability to produce an entire soundtrack in just one
single is a feat to be reckoned with. Each song will take you on an emotional journey as you navigate Tullett's storytelling. Open Season offers a heavier, upbeat track that reminds me of an early Manchester Orchestra.
I was initially drawn to mynameisntjmack when I heard the jazzy instrumental introduction. As the first track on the artist's new album, olympic is a lyrical genius. jmack brings you through a story in his life with intimate details. The album also includes features with Tommy Richman and Trevor Spitta. If you're a fan of Vince Staples, Odd Future, or Tyler, the Creator, you need to give this new album a listen. Just trust me on this one.
Closing off the list is indie emo folk artist, Cayden Wemple and Grace Gardner. Hardcore is all about being nostalgic and thinking about the trouble you get into as a teenager. Those of us who grew up in the scene always knew it wasn't just a phase. We don't lose our hardcore, emo, pop punk values. They're just stored away and waiting for us to embrace them again. Cayden Wemple does a spectacular job bringing us back into that world. His songwriting follows a poetic style similar to Bright Eyes or Pinegrove.
